How to Effectively Solve the Scaling Phenomenon in Steam Boilers

Scaling is caused by the precipitation of calcium and magnesium ions in water onto the inner walls of the boiler when heated. Once scaling appears in the boiler, it should be removed as soon as possible to avoid affecting the use of the boiler. Alternatively, scale inhibitors can be added to prevent scaling on the inner walls of the boiler.

One solution to address the scaling phenomenon is to install a fully automated water softening equipment with sufficient capacity. For hot water boilers, an electronic water treatment device can be chosen, although its effect may not be significant. A smaller capacity fully automated water softening equipment can also be installed. Another option is to add scale inhibitors to the boiler water, which can be used in various low-pressure steam boilers, hot water boilers, steam generators, distillers, internal combustion engine water cooling systems, and other heat exchange equipment. These inhibitors effectively prevent the deposition of calcium and magnesium ions to form scale, especially in areas with high sulfate ion and silica content in the water supply. They also form a protective film on metal surfaces, effectively preventing corrosion damage during boiler operation.

Usage Instructions for Steam Boilers: Calculate the amount of scale inhibitor required based on the total amount of water replenished per shift, using a ratio of 25-50 grams of inhibitor per ton of water. Add the inhibitor to the water tank, mix well, and then inject into the boiler for normal operation. Follow the boiler operating regulations for normal drainage, with a slightly higher drainage volume than usual. Increase the frequency and volume of drainage when the hardness of the replenishment water is high, and ensure that all drainage points are drained in rotation. When the alkalinity of the boiler water is less than 4mmol/L and the PH is below 10, adjust to normal standards by adding sodium carbonate.

Usage Instructions for Hot Water Boilers: Calculate the total amount of scale inhibitor required based on the total water volume of the hot water system, using a ratio of 25 grams of inhibitor per ton of water. Add the total amount of inhibitor to the system through the water tank for normal operation. When using the inhibitor in hot water boilers, add NaOH or Na2CO3 to adjust the PH value of the boiler water to 10-20 and the alkalinity to above 4mmol/L. When the hardness of the hot water boiler feed water is less than 2mmol/L, the amount of inhibitor can be reduced to 15 grams per ton of water. When the hardness of the hot water boiler feed water is greater than 8mmol/L, the amount should be appropriately increased, and drainage should be strengthened. When shutting down the boiler, all drainage valves should be fully opened to drain the sewage, and the water slag should be rinsed with clean water to prevent clogging.
